A wake at The Dolphin Inn presents an opportunity for your loved ones to comfort you in a less formal setting, where conversations and memories can be shared. A traditional Winchester pub located on a quiet village road, this venue has all the parking and amenities needed to host a funeral reception.

Indoors provides comfortable seating for up to 80 guests, with tables and dining chairs or cosier couches around an open fireplace for more intimate moments and reminiscing.

A pretty garden with picnic tables and fairy lights, as well as a children’s play area gives your guests plenty of space to gather, get some fresh air and quietly reflect on the person who has passed.

Some families prefer a private gathering for close family members while others prefer to celebrate with extended family and friends with a larger and louder funeral reception.

Everyone is different and whether you’d prefer a quieter day or a bolder event with evening entertainment, we can help take away some of the tasks like catering, finding a local musician, setting up and cleaning the venue or even creating a memory tree for your guests to write their favourite memory down and hang it on a branch for others to read.

Celebrating the life of someone you love when you’re surrounded by your friends and family can be a great way to remember the good times while feeling supported but it can be emotionally draining too. If you’d like for one of our staff to initiate a toast or respectfully ask the group to take a moment to quietly reflect while they sip on their favourite drink, they’ll be happy to do so

The Dolphin Inn offers locally produced, home cooked food that’s delicious and comforting. Our chefs can create an array of options, including a hog roast or a traditional buffet style spread. Hot meals may also be served if you’d prefer a sit down meal f

Our ingredients are sourced from local farms in Hampshire wherever possible and always served fresh. Our menu can be found here but if you have a special request, like the favourite food of your loved one, please let us know and we’ll do our best to help.

Cask ale, beer, cider, bitter, wine and spirits can all be found at the bar but please ask if there is a specific tipple that you’d like available for the day.

Staying overnight at The Dolphin Inn, Hursley

Family and friends that have travelled from afar may book either of our two boutique guest rooms for a peaceful stay with all the comforts of home, including fresh linen, soft towels and tea and coffee facilities. Each room has a double bed but additional beds can be arranged in either room if needed. The first room is situated on the ground floor for easy access whereas the other is on the first floor, with both providing an ensuite. Food and drinks may be ordered to your room and breakfast is included in the room rate, with ingredients sourced locally from Hursley High Class Butchers, just up the road.

The Dolphin Inn, Hursley is a 14 minute drive from Test Valley Crematorium or a 22 minute drive from Wessex Vale Crematorium.

Winchester train station is 5.0 miles from The Dolphin Inn, approximately 11 minutes in a taxi. A bus stop can be found 0.1 miles away from the venue, which is roughly a 3 minute walk.

A large car park is also situated next to The Dolphin Inn providing plenty of space for your guests to safely leave their cars.
